The Holy Qur’an

The Holy Qur’an is the book for which all Muslims are to be guided and instructed on how to live. It is the main source from which all Muslims derive instruction and guidance for their lives. Indeed it states in the Qur’an “This is a book, in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear G’d”.

The Holy Qur’an is the word of G’d; revelation sent from the Almighty to His final prophet, Muhammad (peace and blessings be on him), over 1,400 years ago. This revelation is the last in the line of books sent down by G’d, along with the Torah (sent to Moses (upon him be peace)) and the Injil (sent to Jesus (upon him be peace)). Therefore, the Qur’an is a confirmation, correction, and clarification of all previous revealed books sent before it.

The Holy Qur’an is the very word of G’d and it serves many a purpose in the life of the human being, as it is a guidance and reference point for all humanity, not just Muslims. It teaches the proper and natural ways to think and act. It addresses every ailment and predicament of life, and it shows one how to best appreciate life under the caring and watchful eye of the Creator. It instructs and admonishes mankind with its guidances and safeguards, relating the most beautiful stories of prophets and the righteous as well as of those who forsake G’d and His word; it delivers a clear message with its universal themes that G’d is the All-Powerful Creator who loves His creation, mankind is created pure and has a right to that purity, strength and love is in service; warning of G’d’s punishment for those who deny His message and bringing hope and glad tidings to those who earn G’d’s pleasure by obedience to Him.

There are no words that can define the Holy Qur’an’s eloquence in delivering its message and no barometer to measure the enormous impact that it has on the lives of the many human beings throughout history. The Holy Qur’an is used by Muslims to define and discipline their lives in accordance with the will of G’d, and, indeed, used by many non-Muslims as a framework to develop successful systems and institutions. It is a message to and for all humankind.
